Work Permit

International students who wish to work in Taiwan (either on-campus or off-campus) are required to apply for and obtain a work permit before starting work.

Warning : If you work without a work permit, you may be fined NT$30,000 ~ NT$150,000.

A. Required Documents

  1. Work Permit Application Forms for Taipei Tech International Students
    Please go to the Overseas Student Advising Section of the Office of International Affairs to inquire and pick up the forms in person (or call 02-27712171 ext. 6518, 6519 for details).
  2. One copy of your student ID card (glue on the application form and make sure the registration stamp on the back shows clearly)
  3. The academic transcript for your most recent semester completed or a one year transcript or certificate of the language school/course that you have attended before.
  4. One copy each of your passport and ARC (glue on the application form)
  5. The receipt of the processing fee for the Work Permit (the amount is NT$100). Applicants can pay the application fee at any post office via postal order or pay at the counter of the Workforce Development Agency.

  6. Supporting Documents (any one of the following documents is acceptable)
    1. Specific proof of the applicant's financial difficulty in supporting his or her living or education. Please explain the reasons succinctly on the application forms.
    2. Proof that the applicant is needed for academic work at the educationalinstitute he or she is enrolled at. The proof should be issued by the educational institution which requires the student's participation. It can be attached or pasted on the reason column of the application forms.
    3. Proof of the applicant's requirement to do off campus internship in relation to his or her studies. The proof should be issued by the department which provides the course. The document should be attached or pasted on the reason column of the application forms.

B. Application Procedure

  1. Fill in the application forms and prepare the required documents.
  2. Have the application stamped by the advisers or academic department/institute of the applicant.
  3. Prepare the required proving documents (see point 6 in Required Documents above).
  4. Have the application form and all the required documents stamped at the Office of Student Affairs.
  5. Submit the application form and all the required documents to the Workforce Development Agency’s counter in person (recommended) or via registered mail. Registered post should be addressed as follows (print the following and paste on the envelope if required):

C. Other Regulations

  1. The status of international students in Taiwan should comply with the regulations of the Ministry of Education.
  2. The applicants are required to have either spent one semester studying degree courses or have completed a one-year language course in Taiwan.
  3. The maximum period of validity for a work permit is 6 months.
  4. For applications made in the first semester, the work permit is valid until March 30th of the following semester; for applications made in the second semester, the work permit is valid until September 30th of the same year.
  5. The maximum working hours are 16 hours per week, except during summer and winter vacations.
  6. The Workforce Development Agency has the right to revoke a permit if the applicants do not follow the regulations.
  7. According to Employment Services Act, foreigners who work without a work permit will be fined from NT$ 30,000 to NT$ 150, 000.
  8. Students should return the work permit (if still valid) to the OSA if they suspend or discontinue their schooling.

D. Application for Renewal of Work Permit

Please prepare the following documents, and follow the procedure listed above under Section B Application Procedure :

  1. Application form
  2. A declaration explaining the reasons for renewal.
